Donda but make it Peppa Pig
Kanye's album has been panned by critics but loved by fans. Rather than giving it any unnecessary attention, my petty ass decided to pay respects to Peppa Pig, who in one tweet took Donda back to school. So here's a quick listicle of my favorite clips from Peppa Pig and lessons we can learn from them as law students and as future legal professionals.
As you may be aware, Kanye West just dropped his new album ‘Donda’ together. He even hosted a publicity stunt for the release with a listening party at the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta. While he can always count on his rabid stans to ensure the success of even his most mediocre albums, ‘Donda’ received mixed to negative reviews, with Rolling Stone calling it ‘an album only a mother could love’.
In a twist of events, Peppa Pig inserted herself into the narrative with a viral tweet in response to the album’s mediocre reviews:
In a single tweet, the world is reminded of the savage that is Peppa Pig and how she is that bitch; shaping the attitudes of hundreds of thousands of Gen Z and Gen A kids with her sass and slick reads.
In celebration of Donda, rather than paying the album even more attention with a FAME review, here are 5 other times Kanye’s newfound archnemesis has scorched the Earth with her sharp wit and how we, as law students, can relate to her non-tolerance for bullshit.
1. Peppa Pig Can’t Whistle
The one that started it all! Peppa couldn’t figure out how to whistle and her best friend learned it on the spot.
Does anyone relate? This was me the entire time on Zoom in Admin Law.
2. Peppa Pig Doesn’t Care About Her Sick Brother
In this clip, instead of being an understanding sister and taking care of her sick brother, Peppa proceeds tell him to stop sneezing, shut up and let her sleep.
As law students, we are constantly stressed out about exams, clerkships, and impostor syndrome. I think we can all stand to remind ourselves that we are the main character, we are the moment, and others should put some respect on our name.
3. Peppa Pig Being Captain Obvious
Here, Peppa finds herself constantly warning her father of the dangers of nailing a photo into the wall, to which he ignores and proceeds to ruin the house.
As future legal professionals, we need to be prepared to have clients ignore legal advice that we give to them and to still be there for them when they suffer the legal consequences. I think we can all agree that by doing her due diligence in warning her father and taking reasonable measures to stop him from destroying his property, Peppa Pig is absolved of any liability in the damages caused to the house.
4. Peppa Pig Draws a Vegetable
It’s playgroup for Peppa and her friends and they have been tasked to draw their favourite vegetables. While her friends draw questionable ‘vegetables’ like pineapples and superheroes, Peppa takes the opportunity to once again deal her father a sick burn.
This is one of the first times that I relate more to Peppa’s father than to Peppa herself. Especially amidst yet another hectic semester online, sometimes all I truly want to do is to just sit on my sofa and stare at the wall for half the day. You know what? Be right back.
5. Peppa Pig Apologizes
After Peppa wrongly accuses her best friend Suzy of cheating in a game, Suzy refuses to be Peppa’s friend until she apologizes. Peppa, true to character, gives a half-assed apology and loses her friend.
While not the funniest clip on this list, I think it’s funny that as future lawyers, we inevitable have to defend our clients to the very end; until all resources have been exhausted and even if the client is ultimately in the wrong. We have to learn to be stubborn in advocacy and turn even the weakest arguments into something serviceable for litigation.
It’s also easy to let that habit trickle into our personal lives. However, as future lawyers, we must learn that sometimes being in the right is not always the best. Sometimes, swallowing our pride and preserving relationships is more important.
